Structured first, whatever arrives
Whatever form the request takes, it becomes one structured envelope before anything else happens. Envelope first and always.
- Pasted text
- An email body or a handful of lines pasted straight in. The structured envelope comes first, whatever the formatting.
- An RFQ or purchase order arriving as a document is read into the same envelope, page by page.
- Spreadsheet
- A line list arriving as a spreadsheet becomes typed request lines with normalised units.
- Image page via vision
- A photographed or scanned page is read by vision. Every extracted value still carries its source span.
Email needs no paste at all. Connect Gmail or Microsoft 365 and the email agent reads new mail as it arrives, so a detected enquiry becomes this same envelope on its own.
Application context matters
A match is not a keyword hit. Kabaido reads the application context and turns it into a fit rating you can audit field by field, so a recommendation can be checked rather than trusted.
- Workpiece material
- Read here as 316 stainless. A coating or substrate suited to stainless scores differently from one ground for aluminium.
- Operation
- Slotting, profiling or finishing changes which geometry fits. When the request does not state the operation, the field stays open and is asked, not assumed.
- Machine
- Read here as BT40 VMC. Taper and spindle bound the holder and the shank that can run on it.
- Tolerance
- A stated tolerance narrows the candidates that can hold it. Left unstated, it becomes a clarification rather than a silent default.

Every value points back to the text that produced it
Every extracted attribute carries a source span, so a quoted value can be checked against the customer's own words. When the request does not state a value, the envelope carries a clarification instead of a guess.

Graded confidence
Graded, not bluffed
An applications engineer says how sure they are. AEI does the same: every line lands in a band that states plainly how it was resolved, and the uncertain bands hand control to you.
- Matched
- When a line resolves cleanly to one product it matches automatically, and the evidence for the match travels with the line.
- Review
- When more than one candidate could be right, the line lands in a review band with the candidates side by side. Your pick is stored on the request, so the quote reflects it.
- Closest
- When nothing in your catalogue fits exactly, the nearest neighbours are shown as closest and labelled as such, never dressed up as a match.
- Clarification
- When the request does not state a value the answer needs, the line carries a question back to the customer instead of a guess.
The read is also repeatable. Downstream of extraction the pipeline is deterministic and identical documents are served from a content-addressed cache, so the same request reads the same way twice. An answer you checked yesterday does not quietly change today.

AEI is organised as a two-level categorisation of the UK industrial supply chain. Each pack carries the attribute dictionaries, designation grammars, abbreviation lexicons and unit conventions its corner of the trade leans on, selected per request.

Cutting tools
Milling, holemaking and threading tools, indexable tooling with ISO designation decode, saw blades, machine knives, gear cutting tools and broaches.
Abrasives and grinding
Precision grinding wheels and superabrasives with FEPA designation decode, coated and thin abrasives, dressing, honing and lapping.
Machine tools and CNC
Machines, spares, controls and automation, machine service and repair and subcontract machining.
Workholding and toolholding
Tapers, collets, vices, chucks, jaws and zero-point systems across every clamping interface.
Hydraulics and pneumatics
Hydraulic and pneumatic components, hose and fittings and seals, with port thread and dash size conventions.
Power transmission
Bearings, gears, belts, chains, couplings, linear motion and drives, with designation decoded to dimensions.
Welding and joining
Filler metals, electrodes, torch consumables, shielding gases, brazing and structural adhesives with AWS and EN ISO grammars.
Sheet metal and fabrication
Laser, plasma, waterjet, press brake and punching tooling and consumables plus subcontract profiling.
Fasteners and fixings
Bolts, screws, nuts, washers, studding, rivets, inserts and anchors with property classes and DIN to ISO equivalence.
Metrology and inspection
Hand measuring tools, indicators, limit and thread gauges, gauge blocks, CMM and probing, surface and hardness testing and calibration.
Coatings and heat treatment
PVD and CVD tool coatings, strip and recoat, edge preparation, nitriding, heat treatment, plating, anodising and peening.
Materials and stock
Bar, plate, sheet and block, tool steel and ground flat stock, carbide rod and blanks, cut-to-size and EN 10204 certification.
Plastics and composites
Gaskets and jointing, machined plastics, mouldings, extrusions and composites processing.
Fluids and lubricants
Metalworking fluids and lubricants by chemistry and pack size, with coolant management services.
MRO and workshop
Industrial consumables, PPE with EN marking decode, adhesives and sealants, hand and power tools and site supply.
The prescan
Fifteen packs, never all at once
Breadth is only useful if it stays out of the way. Before any model runs, a prescan reads the wording of the request and selects at most three packs for the read.
The selection is deterministic and costs nothing: the same request always loads the same packs, and the vocabulary of twelve trades it does not need never dilutes the read of the one it does. A coolant enquiry is read with fluids and materials knowledge, not through a fastener lexicon.
This is also part of why requests stay cheap: knowledge is injected per request, not carried on every call.
